web20logo – online services

Posted by mgthantzin on August 18, 2006

What is web20logo? It is a web site that lists COOL online serivces across the Internet. You will have known some of them. But, I’m quite sure ‘not all’. Many of them (the wen sites listed) have cool, simple and sexy themes. Some of them may interest you much that you cannot wait for signing up. Some of the services available online today would go beyond your imagination. Online Photo Editor? you may probably say ‘haha, it doesn’t sound strange’. Ok, how about a service that offers you to write web applications? ๐Ÿ™‚

One good point of web20logo is not a text-based list. It’s a list of LOGOs of services. So, you won’t get bored reading the description of each service and I must say the logos are so appealing that they can draw you to the respective sites. Moreover, you can filter out the services by category. There is a tag-cloud with categories such as photo, search, tool, video, knowledge, travel, and SocialNetwork. You may pick up one and compare them to get to know which one offers best.

Windows Live Writer(Beta)

Posted by mgthantzin on August 15, 2006

Windows Live Writer

This entry is posted using Windows Live Writer. Not so bad! The interface is, as name says, ‘Live’. Haha! My friend told me that he has once read a review that seriously criticized this new product of Microsoft. But, this does not turn to be that bad after I checked it out. Actually, I was always looking for a blogging tool which can add (technorati) tags automatically at the end of each post. First, I used w.bloggar that didn’t support that feature (yet). Next, I found performancing. It’s a bit cool. It’s just a firefox extension and it contains basic features with tagging. You may read my review of performancing here. Then, this thing came out.

This product alone will not offer tagging feature. There is a plugin called Tag4Writer by CodePlex. After Install this plugin, tagging is no more hassle. ๐Ÿ˜‰ There is also another plugin called Flickr4Writer. As everyone knows, it’s for photos. I haven’t tried it yet because I don’t use Flickr. Anyway, it’s a good news for WordPress users, isn’t it?

Formatting features are as usual – Font, Color, Alignment, Bullet and Number, and Blockquote. And, this tool also provides spelling checking for bloggers. It’s something quite useful (for me. :D). A small thing but I would like to highlight something. It’s a checkbox that makes links open up in a new window. If you used Performancing before, you may find it quite troublesome to go to HTML view and put ‘target=_blank’. Now, it’s over. Most of these features can be triggered by shortcuts. Do you like Microsoft’s shortcuts? ๐Ÿ™‚ .. such as Shift + F7 for spelling checking.

Moreover, being Microsoft product, they include a feature that allows bloggers to insert Map which is a part of Microsoft Live Local. For non-US residence, it wouldn’t be that attractive.

Update: I encountered an error when I tried to insert an image from Flickr using Flickr4Writer. Actually, no image was appeared. But, image count showed a number. So, I clicked the blank. It said ‘Report Error or Continue’. ๐Ÿ˜›

Flickr: I am so stupid. I dunno how to sign in to Flickr. It says that I can log in using my Yahoo! account. So, I used it. But, it says that my Yahoo! account is already registered in the database. But, at the same time, it forced me to merge my (logged in) Yahoo! to my Flickr account. Huh? which Flickr account? I don’t have. I just came here to create one. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ If anyone knows how to create an account successfully, please tell me. It’d be very much appreciated.

New Features Tour

Ok, if you are an existing Blogger user, what are you offered? Can you switch your blog to Beta? Here is what Blogger says regarding this question:

While the new version of Blogger is still in beta, some users with certain types of blogs will not be able to switch to it. We’ll be adding support for these blogs as soon as possible, so everyone can join in the fun. But for now, if you have any of the following on your account, you’ll need to hold off for a bit:

  • A blog publishing via FTP to a non-BlogSpot server.
  • A blog with a Plus upgrade (we stopped offering this upgrade a couple years ago, so this will not affect many people).
  • A team blog.
  • A blog with a mobile device associated with it.

Note that, even if your blog is eligible to switch, you may not have the link to do so on your dashboard. We are starting out by just switching over a limited number of accounts, but we’ll add more and more as time goes on. However, if you still want to try out Blogger in beta, what you can do is to visit and create a new account. Later on, you’ll be able to merge this account with your original Blogger account.

Wanna see a my Beta page (erm.. it’s a Myanmar blog. So, you may not read the post unless you are a Myanmar. But, you may take a look at labels. I’ll explore more and bring them to you. :))

Singapore National Day

Posted by mgthantzin on August 9, 2006

Today is Singapore National Day. I hear some song (especially composed for national day) played. Now, I am studying and it is not a disturbance to me. Serious! The song is so soft and quite pleasant.

Our conversation was more than 1 hour and 27 minutes long. ๐Ÿ˜› what did we talk about? Yeah, a great deal! Mainly, we talked about our old and new friends, and human psychology, way of thinking and behaviour, criteria of different group and their values. ๐Ÿ˜› grandiloquence? I tell you the truth. We talked all about ’em. After, we said ‘gud nite’ to each other.

Yesternite, I was quite upset by poor performance of my lovely PC. ๐Ÿ˜ So, I made up my mind to look for a partner for my 512MB RAM. And, as I had only CD-Writer. So, DVD is a stranger to my PC. So, I made my PC familiar with DVD technology. It cost me more than 100 (SGD).

I came back from Sim Lim Square (Bugis). And, I installed my new hardware. Memory was smoothly detected immediately. But, DVD requires an IDE cable. Now, HDD is my primary master and CD-RW is primary slave which means that I m using only one IDE cable. So, I replaced CD-RW with new DVD-Rom. But, no DVD drive letter appeared. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ So, I tried with WPK’s IDE cable [as secondary master] and it’s detected. I even tried to run a DVD. Quite good!

So, I juz decided to use CD-RW now and wait for NLH to pass his extra IDE cable. I hope there is no immediate need of DVD-Rom for the meantime.

This Evening

Posted by mgthantzin on August 5, 2006

Wokae, forget about the past.. this evening, we finished all assignments for this semester. Only 4 exams left for 4 modules which will commence on coming 15. So, I came back and took a rest. Then, I harnessed my blog with some photos. Oh yeah! my photo blog address is changed to this.

And, my friend gave me a link to which contains a myanmar music video for the song ‘loneliness’. That song is one of my favourites. I put it on my friendster profile.

Next, I wrote the previous post. Actually, there should be a lot to jog down as I’ve been absent from this place for a long time. But, nothing comes out from my brain now. So, please come back soon. ๐Ÿ˜›

I kept talking about something quite interesting in my recent posts. What is that? It’s StumbleUpon. Some of my favourite bloggers seem to be using this toolbar. What is StumbleUpon?

StumbleUpon helps you discover great websites. With a single click you can find and share cool sites matched to your interests.

I’m hooked on the thing, and rate it as the second most useful web browsing tool after Google itself -PCPro

– StumbleUpon Toolbar

You need to sign up, as usual. And, download a toolbar. Download? Don’t think about those annoying toolbars. This is a gift for netizen. You install toolbar and log in. In signup process, you need to choose the topics that interest you. Topics covers photography to cooking, internet to history.

Whenever you click ‘Stumble’ on your toolbar, it will bring you to a (totally) randomized page which would definitely catch you. Be prepared to organize your new bookmarks(favourites in IE). It will sometimes even navigate you to a deep-linked swf files or image files. (example)

How it works? Simply, by getting members contribute to it. Whenever a member (it may be ‘You’) came across a page that could generally catch his attention he can share it with other stumblers. If someone sees a page which features some optically illusive images (general ppl usually love to enjoy those images, rite?). Yeah.. that’s how it works. To learn more about it, click here.

Is it perfect? definitely not! Whenever I viewed a page and rate it as ‘I Like it!’, it should be save d under my account theoratically, shouldn’t it? But, I cannot search some pages that really attract me to surf again. Only some are found. And, you cannot delete a page you rated.

So, no longer needa wait for your favourite bloggers to tell you about interesting stuff on the net. Go get ’em yourself!
